Small lamps that changed the Roman everyday life

Starting during 1st half of 1st to 4th century AD, a special, but not special type of clay lamps dominated northern provinces of the Roman Empire – the Firmalampen. Most extensively used in military outposts , quickly adopted by the surrounding villages castra – canabae.

The Firmalampen were a result of a genius idea, thanks to which the Romans leaped centuries – technologically speaking, making technology patented in late 18th century something that was some type of a miracle into an everyday thing.

The ease of transport, as they were really shock-resistant compared to their more artistically finished cousins guaranteed their great success and market domination to some point.
